As a founder- principal of Decatur Capital Management, Degas developed DCM’s investment philosophy and is responsible for its implementation.
Upon entering the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, Degas found himself in the advanced math class and the lowest-level English class! He wisely decided to major in mathematics and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from West Point. While serving as a Captain in the U.S. Army, he studied econometrics and received a Master of Science degree in Economics from the University of Texas at El Paso. While in graduate school, he was inducted into Omicron Delta Epsilon Society, the International Honor Society for Economics. Degas has served as Adjunct Faculty member for Keller Graduate School of Management, Devry University. In addition, he holds the NASD Series 65 Uniform Investment Advisor license. Degas is a CNBC contributor and is featured on CNBC’s Fast Money Half Time Report.
Prior to founding DCM, Degas served as Corporate Treasurer for the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), managing its reserve funds. He also served as a member of the MARTA pension committee. While at MARTA, he began developing DCM’s investment philosophy and also earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
In addition to his professional achievements, Degas is active in the community and has served on the boards of several churches and nonprofit organizations. He has served as Chair and Board Member for Our House, a non-profit childcare center for homeless families. He was selected to serve on the 2003 Business Leader Advisory Board for the Georgia Department of Education. He is active as a volunteer with Boy Scouts of America and currently serves as a Philmont Ranch Committee member and Board member of the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
He is married to Patricia and has two children, Leland and Cydne. When not reading abstruse research articles, Degas can be found enjoying the outdoors while cycling, golfing, and camping. One of his aspirations is to capture the beauty of nature on canvas.
